When Pablo Picasso created "Houses on the Hill", He used mainly straight lines to emphasise the formality of archatecture as well as the absence of nature. The lines themselves make the environment look 'busy' although we see no activity.
Picasso: Landscape With Two Figures
Picasso's "Landscape With Two Figures" takes a different approach. Using almost all curved lines, we feel much more connected with the natural flow of nature. The absence of straight lines is the absence of man, and thus the absence of chaos, giving us a peaceful feeling.
Sketching Assignments

This is my first attempt at a plant sketch. It's just a #2 pencil on some computer paper as I followed along with the professor as she demonstrated techniques on a youtube video.
Five Everday Objects
This assignment was to sketch 5 items that I came across that I wouldn't normally take notice of. I actually found that when I was finished that these everyday items were quite interesting pieces of art. I'm starting to understand Warhol's Campbell Soup Can...
Botanical Sketch 'Salal'
After a few test sketches I finally got the nerve to put pencil to the actual sketchbook. I still have practice to do on shading, and I have yet to break out the 'official artist pencils' I bought from the art supply store. This is done with a run-of-the-mill #2 pencil.
